About

What I love about working with stone is the combination of hard physical labor and artistry; the simplicity of the tools and the beauty of the medium; and the repetition of the task at hand. It sharpens my mind to a single-point that pierces through the "chatter in the skull" and gives me a sense of harmony that I can express through the stone. It doesn't happen like this everyday, but it happens often enough to have me hooked.

I live in Portland with my best friend Gloria and our daughter and huskies.

"We couldn't be happier with how our dry stone wall turned out with Steve. We had a space that begged for a support wall and we struggled to come up with a design that was both functional and beautiful. Steve came up with a concept that transformed the space into a statement of art.  It's become the talk of the neighborhood and we receive positive comments from neighbors all the time. Along the way he was easy to work with and upfront about plans and costs.  He has a passion for this traditional art form and it shows! I would highly recommend Steve to anyone in search of adding a unique element of beauty to their outdoor space."

"Steve is more than an artisan: he's a design partner, collaborator, and educator. He approaches each project with a thoughtful eye, especially to be respective of the space and the project. We were beyond lucky to work on two projects with Steve and already have more to do with him. We highly recommend!"
